Botswana agates have been found in great profusion in basaltic rocks of Permian age (248-290 million years old). The common colors are shades of deep purple, medium to dark grays and black with sharply contrasting white bands. Deeply weathered specimens tend to have faded to shades of pink and light grey. This specimen has very tight fortifications.

Picture stone is a form of Rhyolite. The banding and colors often form pictures -at least imaginary ones.
